A Sunny Morning in Kotor, Montenegro

During our first day in Dubrovnik, we sought shelter from the pouring rain in a tourist office. After a chat with the girl at the desk, we left with a day tour to Montenegro scheduled for the next day.

That ended up being such a great idea. :)

Our guide picked us up the next morning and we made the short drive to the Montenegrin border. A few passport stamps later, and we were on our way. First stop, the Bay of Kotor!

It also happened to be our 2 year wedding anniversary :)

The Bay of Kotor used to be called Europe's southernmost fjord. Across the bay you can find a monastery said to be built after a rock with the likeness of Virgin Mary was found.

Wow. Just wow.

From there we continued to the town of Kotor, a small Mediterranean harbor town. There's a church built into the cliffs behind the town, but we didn't have enough to check it out. It looked amazing!

Unlike the weather in Dubrovnik, Kotor was picture perfect. The temperature hovered just under 60 F, and there was plenty of bright, Mediterranean sunshine to warm us up. As we basked in the sun I couldn't help but smile. THIS is how I wanted my Christmas vacation to be!

You can take the girl oughta Georgia... ;)

The town was pretty quiet and most of the stores were closed. It was nice to see normal Montenegrins going about their day and the empty streets made for some fun photo ops.

We wrapped up Kotor and headed for our next stop of our Montenegro tour-Budva!

  1. These pictures are amazing! I would love to tour that region of Europe sometime this year.

    1. I thought it was a really neat place. I didn't get to see Bosnia, but Fionn said it's worth a visit!
